Renovation and refurbishment of public housing – Aarhus Omegn, Department 1 – Præstevangen

The development consists of 667 residential units distributed across 24 apartment blocks and 76 stairwells, located in hilly terrain with green spaces between the buildings.

The renovation is carried out under a comprehensive master plan and is divided into two main phases.

In general, for both phases, partial demolition and environmental remediation of the building structures will be performed, including the handling of PCB, asbestos, heavy metals, and radon.

Phase 1: General Renovation of Housing Units

All apartments undergo comprehensive renovation works focusing on energy efficiency and indoor climate improvements.
The works include:

  • Replacement and improvement of the building envelope
  • Installation of balanced mechanical ventilation systems
  • Renovation of bathrooms
  • Upgrading of kitchens

Phase 2: Accessibility Housing Units

A total of 120 units across 3 apartment blocks will be converted into fully accessible units.

The works include:

  • Installation of elevators
  • Layout adjustments to meet accessibility standards
  • New installations and balanced ventilation systems
  • New bathrooms and kitchens
  • Integration of existing balconies into the internal living areas

Supplementary Works

  • Conversion of existing commercial units into 8 new public family apartments
  • Construction of new caretaker facilities
  • Renovation and upgrading of outdoor areas, including safety-enhancing lighting
  • Execution in stages with full relocation (decanting) of residents
